(words by Vlčák) He is old, though mighty one Carving stories into stones Beard silver shining Bones burning frost He lived and fought for ages – full of hardship like the deep below he searched for freedom and the youth flew away Eagle brought him freedom and now peace is in his soul The third pillar – privileged mind – gods let him know Bones cracking like a helmet, when the arms started to shake Now seeing the pageant, he threw his sword into the lake When he was young he was gifted with the pillar – strength With this pillar he smashed through the battles - fighting like a bear And it brought him new desire, to run over the fields To ask gods if like themselves, he could now be free Gods told him: be steady and be just like a wolf Build another second pillar, sail out of our gulf When ship cracks like a helmet, then fortify your soul Sharpen your mind like a blade, wisdom is your sword He´s been living and sailing for ages – dark like the deep below Searching for the wisdom, while the youth was flowing away As a demigod now he is free

Rod Havrana 04:06
Zbav nás té zimy, hladu a nemocí. Zachovej rod, zachovej rod! My jsme tví synové, bez tebe bezmocní, Havrane, Havrane, otče všech duchů. Naše krev zbarvila pírka na totemu, zachovej rod, zachovej rod! Přikaž zlým mrakům, ať odhalí Slunce, ať roztaje sníh a tráva se zelená. Temnota ustoupí, den ať je bez konce. Zachovej rod, zachovej rod!

(words by Honza V.) … and then she left again, left her light shining in the silence of the night … … through the woods and spacious fields … … I was gone again, I was gone to reach my land, over the seas and hills, where my grave shall sadly stand … These feelings to me are sacred, though like mountain views are changing, when in clouds the tops are veiled … . Sacral moments when those trees embrace me, like lovers they relate, when in forest we share our secrets. Those mysteries of life … listening to their stories, through their branches whispering. (And mine) I drop within their leaves with voice gently shivering, we share our common breeze. There in the woodland the path goes winding, as we walk up and down the hills. Precious to me is this sacred journey, till my heart at home stands still … silently still … silently still. There are no trees to speak to me, where my heart stands still, where my heart stands still. … and then she left again, left her light shining in the silence of the night …

(words by G.H.M.) Introduction (Raven's whispering): Imagine midnight wood, leaves are falling down from trees. Let begin election of sovereign to rule heathens. Unknown man, a lonely stranger is coming into camp. Veiled in cape, staff in hand - oaken branch from olden land. Hunters: Be welcome wayfarer, come and rise some pints with us! Then tell us, who you are and where's your journey destination. Our tribe is looking up to those, who reach up dangerous land around. Traveller: Believe me...honestly, old blood's flame is burning in your eyes. I can see your ancestors, fortune is standing on your side. Ancient scrolls are speaking clear "...find last independent nation..." Help them grow, teach them how to use their blood's might. Hunters: Our tribe is looking up to those... who reach up dangerous land around!

(words by Honza Kapák) Moon, forest, blinding snow My ancestors call me back home Don´t ask me who leads my steps What made me follow this path The thing I feel is older than any words How can you dare to stop me now ... please, don´t ... I must go Strange, moon shines slightly, just as little as clouds allow May inner enlightment give me a sight of the day´s clarity Frost shivers my shoeless feet and tempts me to dance... ... the timeless dance with eternity The last time Im looking back with tearless regards Well ... I used to love it there Last rememberance in a mind washed off pain and scars Well ... I used to suffer there Strange, suddenly I understand, all the tones and words whispered to me A breathtaking song of divine unity Frost shivers my shoeless feet and tempts me to dance ... ... the endless dance with eternity You may have used to know me, sorry if I´ll be missed But the feeling inside is a law I must keep on this path despite only guessing its goal Sorry my friends, I must go … Moon, forest, blinding snow My ancestors call me back home

(words by Honza V.) Krásou dívka obdařená, však zlá macecha tuze trápí jí, Sestra v loži zabořená, však ošklivá až přejde smích Té zlé z prachbídné kratochvíle fialek se zachtělo Jahody a jablka rudá, dítě marné, okusiti muselo Za okny jen mráz a vítr, měsíc, les a bílý sníh Táhne děvče hustým lesem, doufá v zázrak, tu světlo zří Na kopci tam v tichu sedí Dvanáct mužů – nejstarší třímá kyj Prosbu její vyslyší S pocitem hnusu, Leden postoupí svůj trůn těm ostatním Táhne matka se svou dcerou, lesem zimním, nehostinným Hnány touhou, závistí a zlobou, hledat plody letních dní Komu však v srdci střídmost chybí, pokora a uznání Zhyne smrtí jak sníh bledou, když neznal lepšího jednání

about

"Welcome,
we would like to explain our motives for recording this EP which you are now holding in your hands. Firstly, it is important to say that it was not in our original intentions to present PANYCHIDA in such a way, but certain circumstances led us to do so. The tracks which were recorded for this EP were originally intended as additional pieces of our normal work. Nevertheless, circumstances led us to put them on this special recording. It is an honour to say that everything took place in the way that it did with our recording of “Woodland Journey”. One of the main reasons you can hear PANYCHIDA here on its way to its next regular recording was the beautiful cover art created for us by Zdeňka Boušková, known for her work on covers of the Czech editions of books (not only) by Robert Holdstock. This is not a coincidence, as it was this author whose series on the Mythago Wood inspired the track entitled “Ryhope” from our previous full-length album “Měsíc, les, bílý sníh ~ Moon, Forest, Blinding Snow”. This connection led us to contact the artist of these magical drawings. Because the original plans for the drawing were not realized for various reasons, we decided to make use of a several-month project and its results in this way. Cooperation with Pařát Magazine enabled us to present PANYCHIDA to people who had never had the opportunity. For the group’s image to be sufficiently compact and at the same time exclusive, we have decided to include some re-worked songs next to the brand new tracks from previous years. These older songs also serve as a sample from the previous album. All of this is enriched by the live execution of the track “Running out of Rules” from last years Phantoms of Pilsen Festival. The festival has gone, during which we have strived to introduce bands which have not previously appeared in the Czech Republic and who for us truly possess the hall-mark of the magical.

We would like to dedicate this recording (not only with regard to the title track) to all our friends with which we have close relationships. Further, we dedicate it to our friends who are separated from us by hundreds of miles – miles which are difficultly and rarely crossed in order for us to spend a few moments together. Often it is these people whose friendship is so inspiring and whose existence we must appreciate all the more. Moments spent in their company can take on the feelings of a walk through a forest charged with emotion; a place which we would like to visit more often, and a place to which in our modern world there are so few opportunities to go. These moments become true rarities which we all appreciate and strive to enjoy to its fullest.

PANYCHIDA, November 2011"

PANYCHIDA, Listopad 2011."

Panychida Plzen, Czech Republic

The band hailing from the Czech Republic evolved into distinctive mixture of black and traditional heavy metal after more than fifteen years of existence.
And it is the new album which takes the listener to the most fascinating journey on the south border of Bohemia, into the old times of Šumava mountains.
